Kaos, er, Chaos

My friend Greg, expecting better than this, encourages me to speak up. I tell him that not much is going on, I don't have much to write about. He proposes this: CONTROLLED CHAOS. It's an interesting article about experiments in Europe to do away with traffic controls of any kind in an effort to calm traffic and make people responsible, etc.

But Chaos brings to mind Kaos, so add some Kaos to your life.

The theme to Get Smart is the ring-tone I have associated with Molly. The first time it went off in a meeting (my bad) my boss, at the time, took his shoe off and put it to his ear. A fond memory.

There. I knew you could do it.

I can't tell you how long I thought "kaos" was the correct spelling.

I first encountered the "unsafe is safe" concept a few months ago when I typeset an article that mentioned it, the point being the more time you spend looking at your speedometer, the less time you spend paying attention to what's actually going on in traffic. (How that related to philosophy, I can't recall.) My favorite line is this: "He may stop in front of the crosswalk, but that only makes him feel justified in preventing pedestrians from crossing the street on every other occasion." That's me. I'm constantly telling the girls (both of whom now have their driver's licenses), "Pedestrians have the right-of-way--IN THE CROSSWALK!"

Won't it be a kinder, gentler world when we all give way to each other by means of "friendly gestures, nods of the head, and eye contact"?

You go first.

Yes, till you're late for work and try to seize an advantage!
